5H-Programm
Human life is a precious and rare gift, and all people should have the opportunity to express the fullest potential of their human-ness. Art of living in cooperation with its sisterorganisation IAHV works towards the upliftment of the world’s poorest people, focusing particularly on social and community development in rural areas of developing countries.
A broad-based and holistic approach to social transformation is adopted, targeting five main areas: Health, Hygiene, Homes, Human Values, and Harmony in Diversity. There is an increasing awareness that long-term eradication of poverty requires a fundamental shift in consciousness, that goes well beyond improving the material conditions of life.
Improving the material conditions of life is the first step in our social and community development programs. Modest but attractive homes that will last for generations are built by volunteers in poor rural villages in developing countries. Sanitation systems are put in place, and wells are constructed to provide clean water to villagers. Education in proper hygiene and health practices is provided by volunteers. This program benefits volunteers as well as recipients, providing for social and community development at the same time that it promotes human values and harmony in diversity. Multi-cultural and multi-ethnic festivities and seminars are also conducted, both in rural and urban areas.
This broad-based and holistic service program provides the opportunity for people all over the world to put into practice the values of compassion and service to society by contributing to the social upliftment of the world's poorest people. It teaches through example, providing a model of service for the rest of society to emulate.
