Stand up - Speak out
On October 17, 2007, 38,164,739 people in more than 100 countries stood up against poverty to demand that their government finally implement the UN millennium development goals. The number of participants has risen by over 23 million from the previous year. In 2000, 189 countries had committed themselves to eight goals that should be reached by 2015.
There were about 300 stand up events in Germany with 61,115 people who spoke out against poverty to demand that their government keep its promise to reach those goals.
This year, the UN Millennium Campaign (UNMC) cooperated with The Art of Living Foundation (AOL), one of the world’s largest NGOs with international relief programs.
The Art of Living Germany joined in with campaigns in Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg and Saarbruecken. In Hamburg, the Art of Living event was organized by Rajesh Sarma and Christoph Koellner.

Stand up - Speak out in Berlin

More than 500 people stood up in Hamburg, 187 of them at the main station and another 326 for the event that took place that night at Spielbudenplatz. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, but this did not keep DWA, NNeka, Swackness, Phil the Stream, Prince Alec and Band, Sylvan, Samba and Do not eat, from giving fantastic performances. Handball pros Benny Adrion as well as Martin Sabel, who acted as the emcee, also come to call for implementation of the UN millenium goals.
